Not science fiction anymore: LG’s new HDTV may control your home someday

January 13, 2009 by Derek

lgcontrol4_010909LG is rolling out a new line of HDTV’s with Control4 built in (its a home automation software that’s mega cool), and though this line is intended for corporate/commercial customers for now, its only a matter of time before its made available for residential consumers.

This new line made its debut at CES 2009, and was greeted with much enthusiasm by those who got to try it out, and LG made suggestions that a home version could soon be in the cards, though don’t expect it to be cheap.

This is the first time the HDTV has been suggested as the hub of a modern home, controlling lights, music, heating/cooling and many other basic functions. It’s a natural fit, as many complex circuits and functions can be stored in a small amount of space in HDTV consoles these days.

It’ll be interesting to see how this whole thing plays out over the next year or so, as home automation and HDTV marry in a union of techie bliss courtesy of LG.
