January 16, 2009 by

sony_bravia_xbr9_series_i00Continuing our CES roundup for HDTV exhibitors at the 2009 show, Sony of course had something to say when it comes to HDTV, announcing a few new BRAVIA refinements and even adding “widgets” (built-in functionality via the internet), 240hz refresh rate models, new backlight technology and more.

The new Sony Bravia XBR9 and Z series offer an net connection to access Yahoo! Widget Engine, which Sony hopes to build into a “multimedia hub” where you can check weather, stocks, watch movies via Amazon’s On Demand and other fun stuff via your HDTV. This is what many TV makers have been hinting at for awhile now, and its finally happening.

Other noteworthy factoids: One model will feature 240hz scan rate for razor sharp pictures and almost no blurring at all. This should be the year where HDTV takes a giant step into the future of what it will become one day, at prices only dreamt of several years ago.
