International HD Love: HD penetration in Europe to triple over the next five years
February 8, 2009 by Derek
The USA isn’t the only place that loves their HDTV: market penetration should more than triple all over Europe over the next 5 years or so, reports research companies NPA Conseil and Euroconsult. That’s an even more important number than any of the studies regarding U.S. market news and HD.
It will eventually become a standard in the U.S., but technologies like this aren’t always adopted by other countries very quickly, and if they are, it’s regarded as a strong trend that that technology is secure and won’t disappear overnight.
More than 170 million households in Europe should have HDTV in their homes, with around 59 million blessed with HD now. In 2010/2011, it should pass the 100 million mark, which will represent a 50% market share.
