Farewell: Vizio ends Plasma TV production to focus on LCD

Companies are cutting back on production these days, and it seems Vizio isn’t immune to this themselves; they’re apparently ending production of their Plasma TV’s and focusing on LCD technology.
According to a New York Times report, Vizio Co-big wig Laynie Newsome has stated that its existing Plasma screens will be the last the company produces.
So that leaves three companies to produce Plasma screens for now: LG, Samsung and Panasonic. Plasma fans can still get their share if they want.
Newsome stated that the decision was for a number of reasons, the main one being that Plasma sets simply “don’t show as well in big box stores,” and they wanted to focus on items that sold the quickest. Understandable of course, but its a shame to see a company abandon a still-solid technology like this due to to the bottom line. In this economy though, who can blame them?
