Mitsubishi suspends production of their fancy LaserVue HDTV – for now

10-28-08-mitsu-laservueThere’s a story circulating that Mitsu reps have been telling Diamond dealers that production had been stopped on the outfit’s super-fancy LaserVue HDTV’s, and its been confirmed by several sources: The story is true.

Several sites have reported that (quoting the company): “we have temporarily suspended production of LaserVue televisions due to a problem with manufacturing equipment used to produce LaserVue TVs.”

They go to on to state: “Mitsubishi Electric engineers are taking the necessary action to ensure that the company resumes production as quickly as possible, while maintaining the highest standards for product quality and reliability.”

So this doesn’t mean they’ve totally pulled the plug on the much-hyped laser driven TV’s, and the company is saying they are “expecting production to resume in early 2009″, which is good for those who shelled out the MSRP of this thing (around $8-10K or so, as we reported here a few months ago).

So far that’s the only info they’ve released regarding the suspension, so we assume it’s just a glitch, and a short-lived one (at least it seems the company hopes so).
