New Report: Blu-Ray sales and conversion rate going up…slowly

February 15, 2009 by

buy_blu_ray_300The movies that were released on Blu-Ray didn’t help the market this week Nielsen reported, as Space Buddies and The Life of Bees sold poorly and dragged sales down 3 percent overall for both.

New releases Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Zach and Mari Made a Porno helped to settle it down, but still…Blu-Ray adoption rate has been slowly climbing overall still, and this one week probably won’t be a trend. Sometimes, sales are only as good as the material supported by it, and that goes for any medium.

The Dark Knight is still firmly in 3rd place in terms of sales, with Eagle Eye and Iron Man posting solid numbers.

Overall sales were 61% higher than this week (starting Feb. 1st and ending Feb. 8th) than this same week last year, so the trend is still up.

Next week should definitely be better, but with no real huge blockbusters on the horizon for awhile, no prediction would be safe as far as Blu-Ray disc sales go. We’ll just wait and see.
