HDTV in Transit: Buses in NC to get HD screens
April 14, 2009 by Derek
The city of Raleigh, North Carolina is about to embark in the world of HDTV on public transportation soon. The city has just starting rolling out its first CAT bus with mobile HDTV, which could open a floodgate of similar projects in other cities in the near future.
This bit of HD paradise also comes sponsored by LG and Harris Corp, who happen to be supplying the display and network technology for the project, which will blow up to 5 buses in early August, with 20+ buses going all the way to August 2010, at which point it’ll go even further.
The channels will be a little limited, with a simulcast of local news station WRAL the only channel on there at first, with copious amounts of weather and some ads, of course. The important thing is that HD will get more exposure in the public eye, always a good thing for the medium.
