1-14-08-bd_logoIt looks like a pretty rosy picture for the Blu-Ray format, based on an analyst’s recent report.

Adams Media Research has been pretty tough on BR for the most part, but the most recent and up to date numbers indciate  that sales were double those of 2008 already with 9 million plus, compared to 4.8 million total in 2008. That’s a pretty big jump, and is a good sign for future of the HD disc medium.

Andy Parsons of the Blu-Ray Disc Association was quite excited by the figures (and rightfully so), which included a total of 10.5 million Blu-ray households (including PS3s) as well, which is an even more interesting number.

Yes, it has been a year, and more 1080p TVs are in households than ever before, so the growth isn’t a total shock. But many industry pundits had been predicting doom for the format due to higher prices. While growth may have been even faster with lower disc prices, its only a matter of time on that front, then the growth should really explode.
