New ‘Slim’ Champion: The LG FHD LCD

May 19, 2009 by

lgthinnestlcd_051809It seems like the record for thinnest LCD panel falls every few months right now, and currently LG’s new announcement takes the prize for mega-thin.

Their new 42″ and 47″ models are reported to be only 5.9mm thick. They even resorted to using a coin to showing how thin the new screen is, and we were suitably impressed when we heard of this display of uber-thinness.

Meanwhile, compare these to JVC’s mounted former champion of slim, measuring a now rather wide 7mm thick. LG states that the sets will have 120Hz refresh technology built-in and 80% of the NTSC color gamut too, so it’ll look nice as well as being thin, and we like to hear that. We’ll wait and reserve judgement about how these perform until they debut in stores, which should be in the summer sometime or so.
