From the “Really?” File: 50 million internet-connected HDTVs by 2013?

adobeflash_tv_042009This analyst’s report shocked us, we’ll admit, and we’re still skeptical: The Yankee Group, a technology trend analyst company, is predicting 50 million+ internet connected HDTVs and 30+ connected Blu-Ray players in homes by 2013.

We’re skeptical mainly because so far, customers haven’t flocked to the existing connected HDTVs from Samsung, and it hasn’t really panned out from the tests we’ve seen and read about so far. Its slow, unreliable and the amount of actual content hasn’t reached anywhere near critical mass yet.

We’ll see if this report rings anywhere near true, but for now, color us unconvinced. We’d love to see it happen, don’t get us wrong, but people (at least some) are still wrapping their minds around HDTV in general, let alone internet widget-TVs.
