Expectations: DisplaySearch predicting strong LCD sales, yet falling revenue
June 19, 2009 by Derek
It appears, based on reports from DisplaySearch (a TV/electronics analysis company), that LCD sales are expected to be fairly strong the rest of the year, which has to be music to LCD TV manufacturers. Plasma TV sales are expected to drop somewhat (with the lowered availability).
DisplaySearch estimates a total of 127 million units worldwide in 2009, which is a lot of LCD joy. Total TV sales are expected to drop a bit however overall, as a result of the ongoing price war. Revenue is expected to go down 5-6%, with companies competing on price like never before (as you’ve seen from our HDTV deals on this blog).
Around Black Friday time this year, the company predicts massive sales on HDTVs like we’ve never seen previously, and that should help to account for the 127M unit figure.
