Changing course: Sony aims for buyers on a budget with their new line

Are you waiting for Sony to debut their new LED-backlit LCDs? Well, you might be in for a surprise: Sony’s going lower cost over higher image quality.
FlatpanelsHD, an HD blog, has some info on the next models of Sony’s BRAVIA sets, called in the UK the X5500. The big diff here is instead of the company’s Motionflow tech they’re using now and super-fancy Triluminos LED backlighting, these sets will pack Black Frame Insertion tech (the older tech) to up the Hz flow, and will use white LEDs instead of the previous three color setup, reducing cost and potentially image quality too. It’s an attempt to capture the lower income bracket for LCDs, no doubt.
Of course, DLNA and AppliCast widgets will come in these units, so if Sony’s were a bit pricey for you before, look in September or so and there should be an announcement about this new “budget” line.
