The Train Keeps Rolling: Samsung 8500 to debut new LCD dimming tech
July 30, 2009 by Derek
All of us are just marveling at how great LED-dimming LCDs are, but this technology train keeps on rolling, it appears.
Samsung just announced details of the 8500 series, which features the next-gen local-dimming LED goodness built-in for even better picture than ever.
The 54.6″ and 45.9″ (odd measurements) 240Hz dejudder sets are just 1.6 inches in depth (very thin) and offer a razor sharp 7,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 2ms response, and Energy Star 3.0 savings mode that keeps the picture quality high while keeping the power bill low, always a nice combo.
The now famous Yahoo! Widget Engine and DLNA support will be a part of this tasty package, but this won’t be cheap, needless to say: $3,599 for the smaller one, the bigger one will run you $4,499.
