Slim Chance: LG’s new slimline design debuts
July 31, 2009 by Derek
LG loves the slim look, it appears, and they announced a couple new lines of LCD HDTVs today that really drive home the point.
The new SL80 and SL90 units don’t knock your eyes out in terms of the specs, but have LG’s take on the “borderless” slimline design with invisible speakers and miniscule depth measurements.
The SL90 (the top of this line) is due November or so this year in 42″ and 47″sizes with LED backlighting, 3,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 1.15 thickness, plus 120Hz TruMotion included as well. Solid, nice specs, but not earthshattering.
The SL80 line has the 240Hz dejudder feature, but older CCFL lighting means a somewhat lesser 300,000:1 contrast ratio and 1.8-inch thick bezel, but the 42-, 47-, and 55″ models will be available for your home in late August for $1,599, $1,899 and $2,799, respectively.
A very respectful showing for LG, and they look like winners.
