Super Resolution: Super Bowl to be delivered in uncompressed HD via Level 3

February 3, 2010 by Derek

sb-header440It seems even the big stations prize picture quality for the big events, as the upcoming Super Bowl seems to indicate. Word is that the biggest game in the NFL will be delivered to your screen, sans compression. This (should?) will result in a sharper, clearer picture for all to enjoy, hopefully.
Level 3, a HD advocate and signal company, has announced its going to jump in and deliver Super Bowl XLIV’s feed totally naked and uncompressed from the site back to CBS itself in New York.
Normally for events like sports and live type stuff, the HD signal is compressed onsite in a production truck, and then fed to the studio and stations where it’s compressed once again, which can result in degraded picture and sound quality, most of the time anyway. This way, we’ll see it the way it was meant to be seen. We can’t wait to check it out this coming Sunday.
