Consumer World suggests that you carefully review your local newspapers on Thanksgiving Day. Usually, they will be stuffed with Black Friday ads and coupons. Bring them with you on the big day. Plus, many retailers are offering special Black Friday deals at their web sites. Don’t forget to check them out 24-48 hours prior to the big day. (Also see Rule #6)

2. Evaluate the Deals
Don’t assume every “deal” is a deal. Compare the “Black Friday” special price with the HDTV’s normal price before buying. You can do that at various e-commerce web sites such as and You may even find a lower price online.

3. Buy a Good Product

A low price doesn’t guarantee a high-quality television.  Do some research and read product reviews at sites such as If you’re not familiar with the product’s brand name, check out its customer service record with organizations such as the Better Business Bureau.

Price Plunge: Analysts predicting $199 32″ LCD TVs?

November 10, 2010 by

It appears the deep price cuts we reported awhile back expected for HDTV LCD units are coming sooner than we thought: this holiday season, to be precise.

Many analysts who study pricing trends and patterns are making many educated (and slightly scary) guesses about where prices will drop to this Black Friday and Christmas season: for example, 32″ LCD HDTVs may drop as low as $199 at some stores, which is an unheard of price point for TVs of that size. A 40-inch LCD HDTV for just $298? Recently leaked Target BF sale literature shows just that being available.

The reason, you may ask? Retailers and TV manufacturers are anxious to clear their inventory, particularly with reports that there is a huge amount of unsold LCD panels on the worldwide market, just sitting there with few buyers. So their loss can definitely be your gain this holiday season.

It appears the trend (as we predicted) towards launching pre-Black Friday sales is in full swing, as Amazon got into the party with a great deal on a 55″ HDTV, as written about here:

Amazon today is launching an early Black Friday sale, starting with a Toshiba 55-inch LED HDTV for 50 percent off.

The set, model 55UX600U, normally costs $2,399 but is available today for $1,199 while supplies last. The 55-inch TV is Net enabled and features Net services such as Vudu, a VOD service.

Now 50% off is an amazing deal, especially given its size and features, and it isn’t even November yet! We like the trend, and this season should see HDTV ownership skyrocket due to decreasing prices and great deals that should be offered. Offer subject to selling out of course.

Black Friday Early?: HDTV price dips could come in next few weeks

We all know that Black Friday deals can be some of the lowest prices on items we see all year, and that includes HDTV sets obviously. Rumors are abound that many retailers will start marking down units and announcing BF price leaks as soon as next week in preparation for the holiday season, and the deals could be huge.

How about a 42-inch Plasma 720p set for less than $400? It could very well happen, according to many industry observers. A 1080p HDTV unit for $600? Could happen. We can’t wait, because this could the year where many go HD and don’t look back, which would be a source of great joy for us at SS for many reasons. Price is no longer a barrier, especially with online sales, pay as you go online shopping channels, and other avenues.

Here’s to great BF sales that makes everyone join the HD paradise.

50″ HDTVs for $550? 32″ LCD HDTVs for less than $200? Blu-ray players for $70 or less? Yes, all of that and more could happen this Black Friday, according to several web sites that regularly monitor such sales every year.

These are just some of the awesome deals that retailers will offer on HD-related products on Black Friday, predicts a web site that tracks retailer discounts on what has become the unofficial opening of the holiday shopping season, We believe them, since they’ve been pretty on the mark most years up until now.

We love the deep discounts, but another rumor we’re really excited about: Blu-Ray discs selling around the $5 mark that time of year as well, which should help the medium make some inroads with penetration market wise, and bring the hi-def experience within the budget of many more people.
